About the Artist

Janette Ihnatova Dengo, born in Slovak Republic, Europe in 1973 who is a four times published illustrator, freelance writer, journalist and photographer, award winning poet and a professional artist.

I came to Canada in 1986 after living in Austria for over 6 months, spending all of my youth and pre-teens in Slovakia.  When I arrived to this wonder-filled country full of dreams, possibilities and most importantly FREEDOM, my entire life changed. Little did I know this at the time with the obstacles and challenges and learning a new language, that I would have so many wonderful ventures in my life and be a part of the universe in such a contributing and rewarding way. In the early part of 2007 I began opening and designing multiple online galleries and stores, where my artwork and designs are now displayed, viewed and purchased. Art and writing is my life and love, which is my everyday living and breathing. Writing is not just a profession it is part of my daily adventure and it is a passion.

Please visit my INTERVIEW with 1st Angel at the for a thorough look at my art history and origin, present achievements along with future goals and plans.

Some of my earlier pieces were simple pencil illustrations, though to my art teacher they were glorious works of art.  My art teacher Mr. Polman who was a fantastic person/artist, has later in life became my mentor.  Little did he know this of course that his encouraging words of praise have echoed in my thoughts and visions for over 20 years until this day even though he's long gone now into the light.  He persistently sent my art to our local gallery from which I did get many of my drawings back.  As for my paintings, they were hung in our local Glenhurst Gallery and I haven't seen them since.

Before I discovered I could write, I mostly focussed on expressing myself by means of painting, illustrating, photography and digital imaging. I always loved to write and found myself to be a thinker and am to this day. Stories and poems were always in my mind and thoughts, I just had no way of expressing them in writing of constructed poetic format the way I perhaps could in colour on canvas or through the lens of my camera with digital augmentation. Many times I felt as if I was in this timeless bubble and one day it would pop. When the writing bubble I was in busted, all my creative writing began flowing within my veins like gentle streams in river bends, who soon became full flowing rivers.

All my poems and articles are published at my present primary publishing site for writers called HELIUM.  It feels so wonderful to write whenever I am inspired by life and daily events knowing and feeling assured my work is protected by copyright by a professional site.  I also love the fact I am compensated and rewarded for what I call my passion.  Aside from being an artist, writer and romantic I always reach and explore beyond the limits of the obvious. Mostly I am a lover of life and mankind. I enjoy observing people and nature as I sense the essence of life on many levels and dimensions.

My educational background consists of completing high school and receiving my OSSD while living out in the real world and on my own at 17 years of age. Looking back at those years and realizing how easy it would have been to give up on school and my two part time jobs, and just work somewhere full time like few of my friends did, makes me proud for being persistent and striving to finish school and receive my very important diploma. I took many business courses and art classes in high school, and had no clue what I wanted to pursue in terms of furthering my education and career.

I took a year working in the real world for very little money, before I decided to go to college. In my college years I studied 2 year Business and took the approach of learning everything I could about it since I knew I would have to pay back the enormous student loan I got to do this. I knew taking Business would come in handy in my every day living throughout the course of my life, even if the least it would teach me is household and finance management. I could have went to art school and pursued my career in art, however I believe ART is a way of free form expression and there is only so much you can learn. I’m very glad I took business and graduated with a Business Diploma. It taught me how to become and succeed at Entrepreneurship, which is as natural to me as breathing.

All my creative writing flows through me, many of which I believe are channelled. Some are written within minutes and some constructed through the course of a night with quick jots of verses from dreams and visions.  I am inspired by LIFE events, actions, family, love, nature and the elements.  Everything I have experienced in life I can write about and even those events, which have not occured, yet are within the reach to write and dream about.

'BEACH WALK' by Janette Dengo

"Knowing for certain it was not a dream,

Restful calm spreads my wings so free,

Message to deliver with joy and glee,

I wake once more, a messenger to be."

- J.I.Dengo -

We are all artist in one way or another.  Our life is a blank canvas and the colours we put on it are on our own accord.  I believe in embracing everything life offers and unfolds.  We are all messengers in one way or another and we all have great impact on the rest of the world in the way it evolves and shapes.  I publish my poetry at Helium.

5261492

5261492

Few days ago I had one of the most fantastic and fascinating dreams about the bizarre numbers of 5261492. They were in the precise order as they appear, and it was as if someone whispered these numbers to me as I was waking up. The subconscious mind hears these and transfers them into the conscious where memories, smells and even voices are evoked and remembered. I woke up saying the numbers in the sequence and thank goodness hubby was there to help me out remembering my repetitive rant.

He immediately associated the last four digits with a date of 1492 and made a connection to the Columbus’ landing on the North American continent. I had no clue this was the case but soon found out he was quite accurate. As I realized the numbers simply must have a deeper meaning I began to Google them in the search engine on the web.

Communication with the other side has always intrigued me though not having any evidence to prove I am in fact quite sane has been somewhat of a challenge, especially among my friends. Not everyone knows of my bizarre powers sort of speak, although the ones who do know me are simply fascinated by my gifts.

Now for you to know the entire story, you must first know that I’ve been struggling with believing this nonsense myself and many times believing it’s merely in my head or I must be in need and way overdue for a great therapist. I asked for guidance many times and even though I have personal proof of receiving guidance on countless occasions, I cannot ever get solid concrete proof that I hear what I hear, such as recording for example. The other day and wanted real and solid proof these invisible beings I hear and chat with on the occasion are real and I was sure given one with this number chain.

As I Googled these peculiarly odd numbers, I came across many unusual meanings and one in particular that which really grabs me by the hand. It was the search result of Lynden David Hall who I never heard off, but more importantly the rare and collector’s album he’s made titled “The Other Side” as I found in my search. http://www.vtmusic.co.uk/shop/item/8326114154197.aspx

I immediately got goose bumps as this was the first impression of the communication proof I asked for from the other side as I call them, these invisible entities I call my spirit guides.

This is enough for me to say they are real and speaking to me through a portal that is only heard by me even if there are others in the room with me. Some call this schizophrenia and others as powers, yet it sure depends on personal beliefs and sense of humour.

Now another absolutely chilling image I got when these numbers came up was this http://www.deviantart.com/print/5261492 and it’s a photo of a little girls shoes and red ribbon on what appears to be a road line. All week that led to this event has been quite tough for me as I made many prayers and meditations for the little girl Victoria that has gone missing in Woodstock nearly a month ago. I thought if I could just somehow help, with a dream or vision, I’d do anything to help. Well, I still have absolutely no clue as to what this image means but the fact that it is a little girl with a fallen ribbon made me feel there may be a connection to Victoria somehow. Call it gut instinct. Being a mother and who was kidnapped when I was a little girl myself at the age of four has really emotionally connected me to the story and the little girl missing. I’ve had dreams of a church like structure and more specifically a sideways cross after a deep meditation hoping someone finds her; yet still have no clue what it could all mean. I have few vague personal conclusions though I simply cannot share.

Now one more interesting thing that I think the numbers are connected to is a patent to a well casing with the exact number combination. This is something interesting as I feel there is a connection to the story with it somehow, though cannot put my finger on it. This entire number combo could be a simple message that I am on the right path of my life and everything is as it should be. I feel that I am getting closer a little each day to my so called calling and life mission, yet still have no clue what it is.

One fantastic thing the numbers mean is, they are the first 3 digits of a birthday date May 26th, for a very special friend of mine, who I feel is like a soul sister to me. It can only mean she is part of my life for a distinctive reason as I sensed a special person entering my life around the time we met. She’s already brought much joy and laughter into my life and I love our budding friendship.

I’d like to think the numbers are some fabulous winning lottery ticket as pointed out by few friends, but I have my reservations. Money is a material thing and has no bearing on life, only means of luxury and comfort, as it cannot possibly deliver happiness to those seeking it for such result. Nevertheless, I’d be a fool not to play a combo of them in the upcoming huge lottery, after all what have I got to loose?

Life is a mystery. It could just be that I tapped into the universal consciousness once more and it’s a jumbled pile of noise and a lot to sort out. One thing I know for sure, and that is my guides are here to help me through the course of life and without them I wouldn’t be who I am and where I am today. I love their wisdom, guidance and definitely their humour and sense of adventure they give me. With that, thanks a million!

2009 Children's Aid Society Fundraiser - My first show

2009 Children’s Aid Society - Fundraiser & Silent Auction

It was my very first ART SHOW held on April 18, 2009 at the Hungarian Hall in Brantford, and I was happy to participate for such a great cause. Months of waiting the moment couldn’t have prepared me for the awesome evening I was about to experience.  The hall was packed with fabulous works of art and the event simply sold out. Walls were graced by water, acrylic and oil paintings of so many wonderful artists of abstracts, realism and impression art, while many folks brought their unique treasures and many antique pieces.   It was going to be a night to remember.

The day began with preparing easels, cards, labels, prices, stickers and of course my art for display. I entered the hall at noon, hoping to find a cozy little corner to set up at. Well, to my surprise the entire hall was already set up as the doors opened at 9:00 a.m. with no room inside except a cozy little corner as I anticipated, though right in the foyer. See, the universe is quirky like that and it always has a sense of humour. It was all right with me as the area was right near the double door entranceway to the grand hall, so beautifully decorated and lit with a brilliant huge chandelier in the centre over the table settings.

When I saw this being the only spot to set up in, and as Fran Welsh the event’s co-ordinator has also suggested, I began setting up right away as it was possibly the last spot available. Who ever said the first is the best? This spot was perfect for me, as far as I was concerned. I was up and set up within 10 minutes, though ended up making two trips while bringing my own table as the one promised to me wasn’t available anymore. I brought two more pieces, which ended up being greatly admired by so many potential buyers and browsers. I entered a total of 7 of my works into the show and I was pretty proud of my humble creations.

As the evening approached I got myself all decked out for the Latino festival, comfy yet sassy with a bit of bling-bling, my evening pumps and headed to the hall. I got there early enough to make final touches to my display. My mom who is my best friend was there to support me all the way. As soon as I saw her smile as she sat there in the parking lot in her vehicle, I knew that everything would be just fine since I had the best supporter I could with me.

The place was still fairly empty with only a handful of people. I started speaking with another wonderful artist, who also had set up in the hallway. What a gem that soul is, so personable and wonderful. Her name is ARLENE LASKEY and she is a fantastic visual artist. Her works can be found at THE BRANTFORD ARTS BLOCK where I am also a member.  We had many intriguing conversations through out the evening, while we both admired each other’s artworks.

I was also happy to see my friend and fellow artist VANESSA FRASER’S fabulous piece set up on the left of my display. Vanessa is more then an extraordinary artist, she has become a very dear friend and confidant, while she inspires me in more ways then I can say. She is truly an angel and is the reason behind this event being my very first show. I met Vanessa using Google while I searched upcoming shows and exhibits to participate in.   Long story short, I will be in an exhibit put on by Vanessa who was the co-ordinator for the Charlotte Villa Retirement Residence 2008 ART SHOW and I plan to attend the 2009 November show.

Now back to the evening. Another fabulous artist I chatted with through out the night was NICOLE C. ALEXANDER. Her works are incredible, rich tones Caribbean inspired art, oil on canvas. I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it. She was one lucky girl to have her art display set up nearly 10 feet away from the famous ROBERT CROSBY who’s works are just simply incredible. I could stand for hours admiring his fantastic photo-life/realism paintings.

With so many fabulous art to see, there were few more spectacular pieces that which caught my eye and they were works by NALINI ALMAS. Nalini’s art is abstract by oil and acrylics, very “funky” as you will see when you visit the website and it’s right up my alley for both visual taste and painting preference.

There was so much to see and admire in such a glorious evening. My only hope was to absorb all of it and remember the moment. As more guests began to show up, I realized that the three of us artists in the hallway had the best spots in the entire place. It was not only the best lit-up location to make our art vibrant and brilliant, it was also the best conversation area due to the loud Latino band that played excellent happy-feet music most of the evening.

Now although myself and many other artists did not join the guests in their glam dinner, we did have complimentary seating with hors d'oeuvre and coffee or tea. This was very nice for those who wish not to participate in the dinner, which was quite pricey, however for a great cause to raise cash for the CHILDREN’S AID SOCIETY ENDOWMENT FUND.   The CAS Fund sends over 350 children to camp each year and also provides post-secondary education to those in need. I was so happy to be part of this, as I believe our children are priceless.

The evening progressed and while the guests ate their fancy dinner, my mom and I went out for a coffee and some fresh air. The evening was so beautiful and the warm breeze almost felt like kisses of summer on my cheeks. I was savouring every moment. Can you tell?

Spirit of Eden by Janette Dengo

At some point of the evening I noticed a man with oddly large video equipment near my art display.  I got all tingly and butterflies were racing through my belly as I realized he’s some sort of camera crew and this event may very well end up on TV somewhere. “How cool” I thought!  Sure enough as I approach to speak to him, who’s name was Eric, was in fact from BRANTFORD.COM and was going to be doing an interview in just a few minutes right in front of my huge and latest piece “SPIRIT OF EDEN” (seen on the left). Well, I was merely ecstatic!!

Nothing else wouldn’t have made my evening any better, other then selling a piece so I could donate the 30% as agreed upon to such a great cause of course.

The interview of Fran Welsh was about 10 to 15 minutes as I stood there hoping I would be brought into it.   Nevertheless, I’m glad I wasn’t since I think I would have stuttered by my mere shock & excitement, through the entire interview process.

When we returned after about an hour and half, the awesome Latino band from Toronto already began playing their soulful and upbeat music and the party was alive. The lights were slightly dimmed and the show went on at the dance floor.

I was so glad to see many folks leave the actual hall into the foyer area, where they wanted to chat and browse the few displays, while I observed near by as they smiled, stared and pointed to few of my pieces in delight. It still makes me smile, even now. The feelings were of a little schoolgirl who is just so happy over the silliest thing, that at the moment means the world to her. What a great feeling to recollect and experience.

The media footage below was published by Eric Lloyd from Brantford.com on Sunday April 19th, the day after the event. It was such a pleasure to be part of this event for such a great cause. I'm also happy my art was featured behind Fran Welsh and Leo Renzella, as they clearly stated the importance of the event for the children in need.

As the evening wrapped up near 11:00 p.m. there were many people gathering into the line up right beside my display where they brought out their checkbooks to purchase their treasures they bid on and were taking home. I had slight hopes which were soon fading that I did not sell a piece. Needless to say I stood there proud by my work as they continued to peek over at my work and gave me smiles.

Now this is probably one of my favourite parts of the evening. Shortly after the auction was over, about 11:05 p.m. I began packing up my work only to load up my van as the night came to an end.  As I picked up my 5 smaller pieces of canvas, I had an immense familiar sensation called Déjà vu, as if I’ve lived this very moment before. I mean it was so intense I recalled seeing the 2 larger easels falling over before they did, and they sure did only 5 seconds after I saw them fall in my vision. Then, everything turned into slow motion as the sounds and conversations of the people in the line-up became muffled for a brief moment that seem to last forever. It almost felt like I was watching myself from a 3rd party, yet it was me within my body. I knew my mom would be picking up my display cards and business cards off the table and I saw exactly how she stacked them as they too flopped into every direction before she got a hold of them, few seconds before she actually did it. It was a surreal moment, one I will never forget. It left me in an awe state and simply tickled pink and fascinated.

I said my goodbyes to the few art chums and contacts I made over the course of the evening and gave my mom a great big hug and a kiss, thanking her for her immense support and help.

Today was the day my dream came true. I have been dreaming since I was a little girl to become a known painter and be part of shows and galleries. The feelings don’t lie and my gutt tells me this is only the beginning to a wonderful journey and I’ve only entered the gateway.

My drive home was quiet, while I had only greateful thoughts for all the people in my life, who  believe in me and helped me to make this dream come true. I gave thanks for the fantastic day I had lived to experience and for the mysterious exciting future that lights up my world in visions dreams.

A STAR was born

A bit of realism...

Lion Cub by Janette Dengo

This is one of my latest paintings as of date.  I decided to attempt realism for a change.

Painting Progress

This was such a fun side project to do.  As an arits and a human, I love to learn and explore beyond the obvious. My mission with this simple task? I wanted to see what steps I actually take to create a painting and follow my own progress, and I have to say I found it quite interesting.

New Paintings

If you are a fan of mine and love my photography and other creations, you may not know that I haven't actually painted a new painting for quite a while.  Well, I started painting again.  Here I am with 3 new pieces in a week and I'm getting my touch back.  Like anything else, I hope to get more practice and experiment with colours, shapes and dimensions.  Abstract must be my favoured method of painting.

My set goal for the upcoming New Year 2009 is to paint a lot more and get my portfolio finalized, to present myself to the panel of judges at our local gallery and hopefully get my art on their wall again.  My little fame of having high school drawings up on their gallery walls way back when, will hopefully resurface once again.

To take the pressure off my back and mostly psyche from setting another New Years resolution that is inevitably doomed to fail, I began painting a week early.  This way it doesn't feel like a distant goal, though I'm actually achieving it.

Dimensions: 16 x 20(40cm x 52cm)

Painting Information:  Acrylic original paintings.  Painted on studio stretched canvas on staple free sides.  Paintings do not require a frame. Tango Tulips is done by watercolours on top quality water paper. To purchase the originals please contact me.
